Rep. Evankovich helped volunteers with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy plant a community garden along Route 366 in New Kensington. Rep. Evankovich held a town hall meeting recently at the Allegheny Township Municipal Building to discuss state-related issues and local concerns with residents of the 54th District. Rep. Evankovich welcomed Darren Miller of Delmont to the State Capitol, where Miller was recognized by the House of Representatives for his fundraising efforts on behalf of the Forever Fund at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Miller is a marathon swimmer who is attempting to complete the seven toughest channel swims around the world. To date he has completed swims of the English Channel, the Catalina Channel and the Moloka'i Channel in Hawaii. Also pictured (r) is Rep. Tim Krieger. Rep. Evankovich talked with students from the University of Pittsburgh during the annual 'Pitt Day in Harrisburg' event which brings students, alumni and faculty to the State Capitol to meet with lawmakers. Evankovich hosted Lance Robinson of Export to the House floor, where Robinson was recognized for his efforts to establish 'Brother to Brother Day' across the country as a day for men and women in uniform to honor one another. House Bill 2175 would reduce the program's debt ceiling to $1.5 billion and redefine the eligibility requirements. More than 100 members of the 307th MP Company, based in New Kensington, returned home on February 4, 2012 after a year long deployment in Afghanistan. On Nov. 30, Rep. Evankovich hosted a town hall meeting at the Kinloch Volunteer Fire Department in Lower Burrell. Much of the discussion was about the Marcellus Shale Impact Bill recently approved by the House of Representatives. On Nov. 18, Rep. Evankovich toured the Turner Dairy Farms plant in Penn Hills. Most of the company's milk comes from farms in Armstrong and Westmoreland counties. On Veterans' Day 2011, Rep. Evankovich was the keynote speaker during a ceremony at VFW Post 92 in Lower Burrell. Rep. Evankovich recently presented a citation from the House of Representatives to the Murrysville Lions Club recognizing the group's eye glass collection project. Rep. Evankovich recently toured the Mather Mine refuse site in Greene County to learn about the techniques being used to reclaim the abandoned mine property. Joining him were representatives from ALCOA and Alpha Natural Resources. Rep. Evankovich rolled up his sleeve for a flu shot at his recent Senior Expo in New Kensington. More than 300 people attended the event which featured a variety of businesses, organizations and health care providers. Rep. Evankovich took part in a Capitol news conference announcing the formation of the Pennsylvania Steel Alliance, a new initiative to educate the public and elected officials about the impact of the steel industry and policy issues affecting its growth. Rep. Evankovich recently toured DaVita Dialysis in Monroeville and talked with patients and staff members about the services the company provides. Rep. Evankovich presented a citation from the House of Representatives to Dorothy Painter of New Kensington on her 100th birthday. On Sept. 23, 2011, Rep. Evankovich presented a citation to Renee Fisher upon her retirement after a lengthy career with various state agencies. On Sept. 14, 2011, Rep. Evankovich helped to dedicate new laptop computers New Kensington police installed in their cruisers. The department received a grant from Burrell Group Inc. to purchase the equipment. On Aug. 24, Rep. Evankovich toured Dominion Transmission's Oakford Compressor Station near Delmont. The facility is used for the storage and transmission of natural gas. Rep. Evankovich hosted a Bipartisan Legislative Forum at PSU-New Kensington on Aug. 18. Evankovich and other lawmakers fielded questions from the audience on a variety of topics of local and national concern. Rep. Evankovich took part in an informational meeting near Williamsport on the Marcellus Shale industry conducted by the House Finance Committee. Among the issues discussed was imposing an impact fee on drilling companies. On July 6, Rep. Evankovich took part in a public hearing in Freeport conducted by the House Judiciary Committee on House Bill 1289. The legislation would impose stiffer sentences for dealing drugs in the presence of children. Rep. Evankovich joined other legislators in the Capitol Rotunda on June 28 when Gov. Corbett signed the Fair Share Act into law. Evankovich was a co-sponsor of the bill, which reforms how damages are recovered in civil lawsuits. Rep. Evankovich shows good form as he hit the temporary bowling lane in the Capitol on June 6 to strike out hunger. He was one of 80 legislators to take part in the event, which raised money for food banks and awareness that hunger is on the rise in the United States. On May 27, Rep.
